A new debating chamber has been commissioned for construction at Bungoma County Assembly.
The ground breaking ceremony of the new block was commissioned by National Assembly Speaker who said it will give an opportunity for Members of Bungoma County Assembly to exercise their constitutional mandate in a dignified environment.
“The new new block is ideal for modern equipment and will give the assembly a dignified look,” said Wetang’ula.
The current debating chamber at the assembly was constructed between 1952 and 1956 hence the need for a new chamber.
Speaker Wetang’ula used the opportunity to urge the Members of County Assembly to pass a legislation and convert the old chamber into a Monument so that it can be allocated funds and maintained by the National Government Ministry of Tourism instead of being deserted upon completion of the new chamber.

His sentiments were reiterated by Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka who affirmed the existence of good working relationship between the Assembly and the Executive.
“We have a good working relationship and we are going to prioritize the allocation of funds towards the completion of the chamber,” he said.
However, Lusaka has called upon Members of the assembly to utilize oversight in the chamber as opposed to rallies and public gatherings so that development can be achieved in the county.
Bungoma County Assembly Speaker Emmanuel Situma said the project will be completed in two years time.
Also present during the launch was Kanduyi Mp John Makali who was the first Speaker of Bungoma County Assembly since inception of Devolution.
