Malawi yaomboleza kifo cha Makamu wa Rais na watu wengine tisa.

LILONGWE, MALAWI
RAIS wa Malawi Lazarus Chakwera amelihutubia taifa na kusema kwamba Makamu wa Rais Saulos Chilima na watu wengine tisa waliokuwa kwa ndege iliyopata ajali Jumatatu, wameaga dunia.
Chilima,51, mke wa Rais wa zamani Shanil Dzimbiri na watu wengine wanane walikuwa katika ndege hiyo ya kijeshi iliyokuwa ikitoka Lilongwe ikitarajiwa kutua katika uwanja wa ndege wa Mzuzu.
Wengine walioangamia ni Lukas Kapheni, Chisomo Chimaneni, Gloria Mtukule, Dan Kanyemba, Abdul Lapukeni pamoja na Kanali Sambalopa, Meja Selemani, na Meja Aidin. Hawa watatu wa mwisho ni maafisa wa jeshi la Malawi (MDF) waliokuwa na wajibu wa kuiendesha ndege hiyo MAF TO3.
Baada ya operesheni kubwa ya kutafuta ndege, ilipatikana Jumanne katika msitu wa Chikangawa, na abiria wote wakiwa wamefariki.
“Niko na huzuni ninapofahamisha umma kwamba tuna mkasa mkubwa. Timu ya uokozi imepata ndege kwenye mlima… Waokoaji wameipata ikiwa imeharibika kabisa bila manusura,” Rais Chakwera akasema Jumanne.
Mnamo Jumatatu jioni, afisi ya Rais Chakwera na Baraza la Mawaziri, walitoa taarifa rasmi kufafanua kuhusu ajali hiyo.
Waelekezi wa ndege waliielekeza ipinduke baada ya rubani kushindwa kutua katika uwanja wa ndege wa Mzuzu lakini mara iliporudi ilipotea kwa rada ya mawasiliano.
Hii ilitokana na hali mbaya ya hewa na kuchangia rubani kutoona vizuri.
Chilima amekuwa makamu wa rais tangu mwaka 2014. Awali, aliongoza kampuni ya simu ya Airtel Malawi.
Kulingana na wasifu wake kwenye tovuti ya serikali, amewahi pia kufanya kazi katika kampuni kama Unilever, Coca-Cola na Carlsberg.
Chilima alikumbana na kifo alipokuwa akienda kuhudhuria mazishi ya aliyekuwa Mwanasheria Mkuu na Waziri wa Haki, Ralph Kasambara.
