BRICKS, BRAINS AND BIRD ELEVATORS: RUTO’S HOUSING SCHEME ELEVATES CEMENT SALES AND LUHYA CHICKENS TO NEW HEIGHTS

NAIROBI, Kenya

The political conflict between Senator Edwin Sifuna and President William Ruto has intensified, centering on a clash between the national Affordable Housing Programme and local economic priorities in Western Kenya.

Sifuna’s critique of the housing project, characterized by viral analogies, is driving his rising national profile and fueling populist sentiment against the government’s development strategy.

In what critics are hailing as a masterful masterclass in architectural comedy, the Kenyan government’s Affordable Housing Programme has successfully solved a problem no rural citizen knew they had: how to get a free-range chicken to the 12th floor.

Senator Edwin Sifuna launched a scathing critique today against President William Ruto’s flagship housing initiative, re-branding the entire multi-billion-shilling enterprise as a highly sophisticated, state-sponsored hardware store.

According to Sifuna, the grand strategy is less about putting roofs over the heads of the vulnerable but entirely about moving record-shattering volumes of cement, steel and ballast—conveniently enriching a select circle of well-connected construction tycoons.

“It is all about selling cement and steel,” Sifuna told reporters at his Siaka rural home in Bungoma on Friday, suggesting the housing levy might be better named the ‘Ruto Material Supply Stimulus Package.’

The Nairobi Senator pointed out the awkward geographical inconvenient truth that not a single slum in the capital has actually been eliminated by the concrete monoliths.

Meanwhile, in deeply rural areas like Funyula, where skyscrapers are traditionally as common as snowstorms, Sifuna noted that residents are crying out for functional stethoscopes rather than multi-storey stairwells.

“All this beautifully wasted cement and steel could have actually built and fully equipped the Busia Referral Hospital,” Sifuna observed, noting that a patient cannot typically treat malaria by leaning against a newly cast affordable concrete pillar.

The policy dispute took a turn for the surreal on the airwaves of regional and national radio and TV stations where Sifuna introduced Kenya’s latest socio-economic metric: poultry logistics.

“As people from the Western Region, we cannot live in places where our chickens cannot enter,” Sifuna explained with deep cultural gravity. “How exactly is a Luhya chicken supposed to navigate the elevator to the 12th floor of an affordable housing unit?”

President Ruto, speaking from State House, was visibly unamused by the avian architectural critique.

The Head of State sharply dismissed the Senator’s poultry-based urban planning concerns, suggesting that opposition to high-rise rural living was proof of a severe national shortage of cognitive capacity.

“So you are telling us not to build affordable houses because your chicken cannot get to the 12th floor?” a fiery Ruto retorted. “I have said it before, we have some people out here who are completely devoid of brains.”

Sifuna wasted no time firing back on social media, treating the President’s anger with the digital equivalent of a shrug.

“Arguing with me about chicken is like arguing with Nyandarua Senator John Methu about potatoes,” Sifuna shot back, effectively establishing a new political ecosystem where leaders are defined by their regional agricultural stereotypes.

The “chicken-and-cement” strategy, however absurd on paper, appears to be working wonders for Sifuna’s political resume. Brand-new July 2026 opinion polls indicate that the electorate is highly entertained—and supportive.

The latest TIFA Research dataset shows Sifuna skyrocketing to 15 percent in national presidential preferences, comfortably leading the opposition pack and breathing down Ruto’s neck, who sits at 24 percent while drowning in cement dust.

Infotrak similarly placed Sifuna at a commanding 12 percent, proving that bird-based political satire is a highly viable path to high office.

Within his own ODM party, Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi faction holds a crushing 74 percent approval rating, while rival internal factions have plummeted into statistical insignificance.

While Ruto’s leased friends at the Nzoia Sugar factory continue to forget to pay local farmers, Sifuna is busy spending his Saturday turning political capital into physical crowds.

The Senator is scheduled to hold a major rally in Trans Nzoia this morning, before heading to a mega homecoming assembly at the Posta Grounds in his home turf of Bungoma.

Local chickens in Bungoma are reportedly being kept indoors today, safely away from any potential 12th-floor real estate agents.

Ends.
