Jukwaa la Mwananchi Members Clean Bungoma Streets Ahead of Edwin Sifuna’s Visit

BUNGOMA

Leaders and members of Jukwaa la Mwananchi have embarked on a major clean-up exercise in Bungoma Town ahead of the anticipated visit of Nairobi Senator Edwin Watenya Sifuna, who has expressed interest in contesting the presidency in the 2027 General Election.

The exercise, which began on Friday, saw members clean streets from Kanduyi Stage to the Bungoma Central Business District (CBD). Participants washed sections of the road, collected garbage and cleared litter in an effort to improve the town’s cleanliness before the senator’s arrival.

Jukwaa la Mwananchi patron Leakey Wanyama said the initiative was aimed at giving Senator Sifuna a warm reception as he returns to his home county to meet residents. He noted that the clean-up symbolised the group’s support for Sifuna, whom they believe is preparing to formally launch his presidential bid.

“This is our way of showing love and appreciation to our son. We want him to find a clean and welcoming town as he comes to engage with the people of Bungoma,” Wanyama said.

Another member of the group, Emmanuel Situma, said the activity also carried symbolic significance, expressing hope that the Mulembe nation would finally unite behind one of its own for the country’s top leadership position.

He said the community had for many years only produced leaders for the deputy president’s office and that the time had come to rally behind Senator Sifuna’s presidential ambition.

Meanwhile, Khalaba Ward MCA aspirant Cyprian Wanyama urged Bungoma residents to turn out in large numbers to welcome the Nairobi senator, saying a massive attendance would demonstrate the community’s unity and support for what he described as a historic political moment for the Mulembe nation.

Senator Sifuna is expected to continue his Western Kenya tour after earlier holding engagements in Trans Nzoia County before proceeding to Bungoma.

Ends.
