Bungoma Senator David Wafula Wakoli has been listed among 60 nominees recommended by Parliament for the 2025 National Honours, a recognition of public service and leadership.

The awards will be conferred during the Mashujaa Day national celebrations scheduled to be held in Kitui County later this month.

The list, released by Parliament, features 11 senators, 35 Members of the National Assembly, and 14 senior government officials drawn from various ministries and departments.

The honourees are proposed for recognition under the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) and Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) categories.

Senator Wakoli, who chairs key Senate oversight committees, has been a vocal advocate for transparency and fiscal accountability in county governments.

Hansard records show he has consistently raised queries over Bungoma County’s budget implementation, flagging issues related to pending bills, stalled infrastructure projects and procurement irregularities in several county departments.

Within Bungoma, Wakoli has also earned recognition for championing education, youth empowerment and agricultural reforms, working closely with local leaders to strengthen the region’s accountability systems.

His regular county engagements — including public budget forums and oversight barazas have positioned him as one of the most active first-term senators in the Senate’s devolution watchdog committees.

The 2025 National Honours list, as reported by kenyans.co.ke, also includes notable legislators such as Senators Wahome Wamating’a (Nyeri), Mohammed Said Chute (Marsabit), and Beth Kalunda (nominated).

Parliament has invited public representations or objections regarding any of the nominees, to be submitted via honours@parliament.go.ke by 5 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025.

If approved, the honours will be officially conferred by President William Ruto during the Mashujaa Day celebrations, recognizing individuals for exemplary service to the nation.
