Men in Bungoma County have been urged to turn out in large numbers to undergo vasectomy as a family planning method.

Speaking at Bungoma County Referral hospital on Friday during the marking of the World Vasectomy day, the County director of health and sanitation Dr.Caleb Watta encouraged men to undergo the process in order to plan well for their families.

“There is a myth that vasectomy is castration, this is a total lie, vasectomy is a health process which every man who intends well for his family must go through,” he said.

Watta pointed out that has women undergo all the family planning services so men with enough children should also consider undergoing it help the woman in reducing the burden of pregnancy.

Over 20 men have been booked to undergo the surgery at Bungoma County Referral hospital which has been supported by Marie stopes,
UNFAP and the county government of Bungoma and the patients just presents themselves.

He said that they have seven trained medical officers and nurses undertaking the service.

“It is non painful process which takes less than 10 minutes, after undergoing it, you will be able to help save your family from the burden of having extra unplanned children,” he said.

He said that Kimilili and Webuye are offering the same services and as a county they will make it a routine to help reduce giving birth to unplanned children.
