The County Government of Bungoma and Amref have agreed to partner in a last mile access program aimed at taking Diabetes and Hypertension Management to the underserved communities in hard to reach areas in the county.

Other than the two NCDs, the program further aims to serve Covid-19 vaccination needs especially for the elderly and other vulnerable populations in the county.
Addressing the team, the CECM for Health and Sanitation Dr. Andrew Wamalwa confirmed that plans were already in high gear to see to it that the program goes beyond the three highlighted deliverables.
He also stated that it takes an integrated approach where all other PHC interventions will be included in the package.
Amref on the other hand has committed to deliver the Mobile Vaccination Clinic (MVC) in the course of the month.
Dr.Wamalwa reiterated that the partnership couldn’t have come at a better time especially given that the county is planning to harmonize partner activities in NCD management.

The Head of PHC division Doreen Kinanga and the NCD coordinator a one Rose have been given a go-head to create an adoption TWG to onboard the project and ensure that it’s part of the PHC launch set for flag-off by the Governor on the 27th of July.
The AstraZeneca-funded program which runs until Dec 2023 will now be dubbed, “Lusaka Last Mile Access Program” as the Governor will be the champion after he launches the County PHC Strategy at the end of the month.
Amref has been invited to participate in the planning and preparations for the event.
