Mike Tyson’s return to the boxing ring ended in disappointment as YouTuber-turned-prizefighter Jake Paul dominated the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion in an eight-round bout on Friday.
The fight, held at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, saw Tyson struggle to land significant punches, with Paul winning by a unanimous decision on all three judges’ scorecards—80-72, 79-73, and 79-73.
Paul, 27, showcased superior speed and movement throughout the bout, repeatedly getting the better of Tyson, who appeared slow and out of shape.
The younger fighter, despite promising a knockout, was unable to finish the aging Tyson, although he had him in trouble during the third round with a flurry of punches.
Tyson, meanwhile, connected with only 18 of 97 punches thrown, compared to Paul’s 78 out of 278.
The fight, which was watched by a crowd of around 70,000 spectators and millions more around the world, marked a sad chapter in Tyson’s comeback story.
His age and physical limitations were apparent, and he struggled to mount any meaningful offense against the much younger Paul.
This defeat brings into question whether Tyson, once considered one of the most fearsome boxers in history, should have made a return at such an advanced age.
Ends.
