Zamalek Coach Praises Kenya Police FC Despite Tough CAF Confederation Cup Clash

By Swaleh

In a thrilling CAF Confederation Cup clash, Zamalek’s head coach, José Gomes, offered high praise for Kenya Police FC, despite his team narrowly securing a 1-0 victory in the first leg.

The match, held at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday afternoon, saw Zamalek edge out their opponents with a late first-half goal from midfielder Abdalla Mohamed.

Although Zamalek holds the advantage, Gomes was quick to commend Kenya Police for their strong performance. “Kenya Police created some dangerous situations in our box,” Gomes said in his post-match interview. “They played exceptionally well. We must not underestimate them in the second leg; a 1-0 lead is far from secure.”

The game was far from easy for the five-time CAF Champions League winners. Kenya Police, making their continental debut this season, put up a spirited fight, creating several clear-cut chances that could have changed the outcome.

Gomes acknowledged that while his team achieved their primary goal of winning, there were noticeable defensive lapses. “The most important thing was securing the win,” Gomes reflected. “We performed well overall, but there were defensive errors that we need to address.”

Kenya Police, the reigning domestic cup champions, impressed with their tactical awareness and tenacity, putting Zamalek under considerable pressure throughout the match.

Looking ahead, Zamalek will need to be cautious in the return leg in Cairo on Friday. Despite their experience—having won the CAF Confederation Cup twice—Zamalek’s narrow victory leaves the tie finely balanced. The aggregate winner of this two-legged fixture will secure a spot in the tournament’s group stage, making the second leg crucial for both teams.

Real Madrid Scouting Arsenal’s William Saliba

Real Madrid is intensifying its pursuit of Arsenal defender William Saliba, sending a scout to closely observe him during Arsenal’s upcoming North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Defensa Central, the Spanish giants are keenly interested in Saliba’s performances and have made it a priority to monitor him throughout the season. The upcoming derby will provide Madrid’s representatives an opportunity to evaluate Saliba’s defensive skills and his ability to perform in high-pressure situations.

Interestingly, the same scout will also be keeping an eye on Tottenham’s Cristian Romero, who is also reportedly on Madrid’s radar. With both defenders being considered as potential reinforcements, Madrid is carefully weighing its options ahead of the next transfer window.

Arsenal is determined to keep Saliba and is expected to make a strong effort to retain him. The club recognizes Saliba’s value and is aware of the challenge posed by Real Madrid’s interest. While Saliba has shown commitment to Arsenal, the prospect of joining one of the world’s most prestigious clubs could be tempting.

Arsenal fans are hoping their star defender remains focused and committed to the club despite the growing interest from Spain. The North London Derby will be a crucial fixture in showcasing Saliba’s skills and potentially influencing Madrid’s decision.
