Martha Karua Accuses Ruto of Human Rights Violations, Promises to Rally Kenyans Against Him

By Swaleh
On Thursday, Martha Karua, the leader of NARC-Kenya, made a forceful statement against President William Ruto, accusing him of human rights violations during recent anti-government protests. Addressing the press in Nairobi, Karua condemned Ruto’s administration for its alleged brutality and disregard for constitutional rights.

Allegations of Brutality and Constitutional Violations

In her address, Karua accused President Ruto of allowing the brutalization of innocent Kenyans during demonstrations against his government. She argued that Ruto’s regime has not demonstrated any significant change in governance, despite recent leadership appointments. According to Karua, this lack of reform is contributing to a troubling increase in impunity.

“In the absence of any response by the Ruto regime, we as Kenyans will unite and push for accountability. We are witnessing a period of increased impunity,” Karua declared. She emphasized the need for accountability and vowed to mobilize Kenyans to demand justice until the issues raised by the protesters are addressed.

International and Continental Actions

Karua’s speech also included a commitment to take the matter to international and continental human rights bodies. She pledged to report President Ruto to the African Union Commission on Human Rights and the United Nations (UN) Commission on Human Rights. Karua underscored the importance of holding those responsible for the alleged violations accountable.

“Every drop of blood spilled in the quest for justice must be accounted for. We will submit formal complaints to the AU Commission on Human Rights, the UN Commission on Human Rights, and other relevant authorities,” Karua stated. She vowed to continue highlighting these issues on both continental and international stages, criticizing the state for reverting to what she described as its “default status” of impunity.

Critique of University Education Funding Model

In addition to her critique of the Ruto administration’s handling of human rights issues, Karua also took aim at the new university education funding model. She described it as a betrayal of Kenyan students, claiming that it obstructs their right to education.

“This model, if implemented without meaningful public participation, will not only be unconstitutional but also discriminatory,” Karua asserted. She called for the rejection of the new funding model, criticizing it for placing an unfair burden on students and their families.

Conclusion

Martha Karua’s statements reflect a significant challenge to President Ruto’s administration, focusing on allegations of human rights abuses and issues with education policy. Her vow to mobilize Kenyans and seek international intervention highlights the growing tensions and concerns about governance in Kenya. As the situation develops, it will be important to follow how these accusations are addressed and the impact of Karua’s advocacy efforts.
