Stakeholders from Chamasiri sub location in Teso North Sub county on Monday petitioned the District County Commissioner Mr Stephen Wambura over the recent appointment of the area assistant chief, whom they claimed was a non local.

Led by Moses Onyara, the residents expressed displeasure with the manner in which the just concluded hiring of the assistant chief was conducted.
In the memorandum to the DCC read by Mr Onyara, the stakeholders said it was shocking to see a non local recruited to be an assistant chief despite qualified and competent locals participating.

“We are aware that the assistant chief and her husband have their permanent residence in Mt Elgon. They bought land in Chamasiri where they have stayed for less than five years,” they claimed.
They claimed that the process of recruitment of the assistant chief was not fair thus, their appeal to the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Kithure Kindiki to revoke the appointment with immediate effect.

” We warn of unspecified actions against all individuals who were involved in this mess that has ignored the plight of our people,” Onyara said.
Mzee Faustin Omanyala said as elders they are not happy with recruitment of a non-local to be their assistant chief, urging the government to have a local fill the position.
A youth Mr Joel Etyang said justice was not done in the recruitment process wondering whether the area has no educated people to be elected area assistant chief.

Eugene Imwene claimed that the area chief is also not resident of the area, thus making it difficult to handle land disputes, which have remained pending for some time.
