Lusenaka Retains Western Region KCA Chairmanship ‘Unopposed’ In A Hotly Contested Elections

A veteran journalist Benson Lusenaka has retained his Chairmanship seat in a hotly contested elections.

Lusenaka was elected unopposed as the Western Region chapter Kenya Correspondents Association (KCA) chairman.

In an election which was overseen by KCA national chairman Oloo Janak, Treasurer Benard Kwalia and Winnie Ali, a section of  journalists drawn from Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega and Vihiga counties participated in voting in new leaders.

KCA constitution allows new office bearers to be democratically elected and will serve for a period of three years.

The Secretary’s post and that of the Treasurer attracted stiff competition with each participants allowed to state their manifestos before the election was conducted.

Elias Iteba from Busia County emerged the winner with 11 votes while Irene Nasimiyu from Kakamega County getting 10 and Titus Oteba getting a paltry two votes.

On the treasurer’s seat Marvin Wangatia from Kakamega trounced Cate Kulo from Bungoma with 13 to 10 votes.

Others who were elected unopposed were Daniel Nabwayo Ndunde from Kakamega as the vice chairman, Doreen Ominnah from Vihiga as the vice secretary while Ambrose Simotwo and Lilian Nasimiyu were elected as male representative committee member and female representative consecutively.

KCA chairman Oloo Janak lauded the new members for joining the organization.

“KCA doesn’t impose leaders to members.

We allow them to exercise their Democratic rights through voting in their leaders,” he said.

He added, “Generally I am very happy about Western Region,  a good team, you have been leading in marking the World Freedom day and supporting KCA activities,”.

Janak expressed his joy, Western Region coming up strongly, the most vibrant group. Followed by Coast.

He asked members to make an arrangement of strengthening KCA in Western Region through contribution of monies to the kitty and plan on how to save for future benefit.

“The money will facilitate running of KCA activities, we also train journalists on financial literacy and the need of saving,” he said.
