The Linda Mwananchi secretariat quickly assured a highly suspicious public that the platform was merely suffering from a “technical issue,” begging supporters to keep their pitchforks at bay while engineers coaxed the servers back to life.
Safaricom, which processes billions of shillings daily for everything from Mama Mboga vegetable stalls to massive sports betting platforms, declined to explain how a flood of pocket change from common citizens managed to paralyze their multi-billion-dollar infrastructure.
‘Mmewapasha Wakaogopa’The technological hostage crisis ended almost as fast as it began.
A few hours after the wallet dropped offline, the payment engine miraculously recovered its civic duties.
A celebratory Sifuna returned to social media to gloat that public outrage had successfully terrified the corporate overlords into submission, writing: “Eish! Mmewapasha wakaogopa. Paybill is back up.”
