Farewell to a Matriarch: Leaders Mourn the Passing of Mama Anne Wetang’ula, Pillar of Faith and Community.

Kenya is mourning the loss of Mama Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula, the beloved mother of National Assembly Speaker Dr.Moses Masika Wetang’ula, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, James and Fred Wetang’ula among others.

Mama Anne passed away recently, leaving behind a profound legacy of faith, service, and community leadership.

Mama Anne is the wife of elder statesman Dominic Wetang’ula.

President William Ruto also extended his condolences, describing Mama Anne as “hardworking, God-fearing, and focused.”

He honored her memory, saying, “We celebrate the great life that she led and the many memories that she leaves behind.”

Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi said,
“The passing on this morning of Khukhu Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula, the mother of Rt Hon Moses Wetang’ula, Speaker of the National Assembly, and Hon Tim Wanyonyi, MP for Westlands, has plunged the Parliament of Kenya and indeed, the entire country into deep mourning,”

In a heartfelt message, Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

“Mama Anne was a devout Catholic who dedicated much of her life to selflessly serving the church and fostering a strong moral foundation among children,” Lusaka noted.

“Her unwavering commitment to her faith and her community distinguished her as a pillar of hope and inspiration.”

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula shared his grief, remarking, “Though death is inevitable, the passing of a loved one leaves a heartache no one can heal.”

Mama Anne’s dedication extended beyond her family and faith.

Lusaka highlighted her role as a community mobilizer and mentor, stating, “She positively transformed countless lives through her compassion, wisdom, and selfless deeds.”

Her influence is reflected not only in the distinguished lives of her children but also in the countless individuals she uplifted.

“Her enduring legacy is mirrored in the indelible impact she made on all who had the privilege of knowing her,” Lusaka added.

Bungoma Senator David Wafula Wakoli expressed his condolences to the Wetang’ula family following the passing of their mother, Mama Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula.

“Her remarkable life as a devout Catholic, a steadfast pillar of the community, and a loving mother has left an enduring legacy,” Wakoli said.

He praised her for raising children who “have become cornerstones of our society,” including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi.

“May the memories of her love and the lives she touched bring you comfort during this difficult time,” he added.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa visited Mukhweya Village in Kabuchai Constituency to offer his condolences to Mzee Dominic Wetang’ula on the passing of his wife, Mama Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula.

Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga, alongside Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa and Bumula MP Jack Wanami Wamboka, extended condolences to Mzee Dominic Wetang’ula and his family on the passing of Mama Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula.

“Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time,” Kalasinga said.

“Anne was a devoted mother and the pillar of her family,” Barasa said.

He extended his sympathies to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, adding, “We mourn her loss deeply and stand with the family during this difficult time.”

Bungoma Woman MP Catherine Wambilianga offered her condolences to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on the passing of his mother, Mama Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula.

“The loss of a mother is deeply profound and irreplaceable,” Wambilianga said. “May you find comfort in cherished memories and the support of family and friends.”

She added, “Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May Mama Anne’s soul rest in eternal peace.”

Kanduyi MP John Makali extended his condolences to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi, and the entire Wetang’ula family on the passing of their mother, Mama Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula.

“Her deep Catholic faith, tireless service to others, and nurturing leadership as a matriarch shaped our community profoundly,” Makali said.

He praised her for instilling a “strong moral foundation that produced leaders who continue to serve our country with distinction.”

“I share in your grief during this difficult time. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.

The news of Mama Anne’s passing comes as a significant loss to the Bungoma community, where she was known for her dedication to charitable works and fostering community cohesion.

Her unwavering faith and commitment to moral values shaped not only her children but also generations of young people in her community.
