Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka on Tuesday launched construction of the Nairumbi Bridge linking Tuuti/Marakaru and Chwele/Kabuchai, setting a three-month completion deadline.
Lusaka said the project will ease movement and boost economic activity in the region, where residents have long struggled to cross the area.
“For far too long, residents have faced challenges moving across this area, affecting trade and daily life. I am glad that this is now coming to an end,” he said.
He added that access roads will also be upgraded to maximize the project’s impact.
Caren Nato Wanyonyi, Bungoma director of special programmes and Disaster Committee chairperson, said the bridge will transform a dangerous “black spot” into a safe crossing and improve access to markets, schools and health facilities.
