Bumula parliamentary aspirant Emmanuel Khisa Murunga dubbed “MASH” has stepped up his early campaigns ahead of the 2027 General Election, positioning himself as a grassroots-focused leader while calling for national unity, prayer, and people-centered development.
Murunga, who is vying for the Bumula Member of Parliament seat for the first time, has urged religious leaders across the country to continue praying for Kenya, especially as the political atmosphere gradually heats up in preparation for the August 2027 polls.
He made these remarks after holding a consultative meeting with church leaders drawn from various parts of Bumula Constituency.
Speaking during the meeting, Murunga emphasized the critical role that religious leaders play in shaping moral values and maintaining peace in society.
He noted that as politicians begin mobilizing support, there is a growing need for spiritual guidance to help prevent political intolerance, divisions, and possible unrest.
He appealed to clerics to remain at the forefront in praying not only for the country but also for political leaders across the divide.
According to him, a united and peaceful nation can only be achieved if leaders embrace humility, wisdom, and respect for one another, values that are often nurtured through faith.
Murunga further pointed out that Kenya has, in the past, experienced periods of political tension during election cycles, and therefore, early interventions through prayer and dialogue are essential in safeguarding peace.
He expressed confidence that with the involvement of religious institutions, the country can avoid divisions that may otherwise lead to chaos or violence.
Although Murunga has not yet publicly declared the political party under which he will contest, sources close to him indicate that an official announcement could be made soon.
His growing popularity within Bumula Constituency has already begun to attract attention, with many residents expressing optimism about his leadership prospects.
In interviews conducted by The Intellectual’s Post, several residents who have recently interacted with Murunga described him as a humble and approachable leader who listens keenly to the concerns of ordinary citizens.
Many noted that his willingness to engage directly with the people sets him apart from other aspirants.
Murunga is among a group of candidates seeking to unseat the current Bumula MP, Jack Wamboka, in what is expected to be a highly competitive race come 2027.
A section of residents has openly expressed dissatisfaction with the current leadership, accusing it of failing to deliver meaningful development projects that directly benefit the people.
According to locals, key sectors such as infrastructure, economic empowerment, and social services have not seen significant improvement, prompting calls for a change in leadership.
It is within this context that Murunga’s message of transformation and inclusive development is resonating strongly among voters.
Murunga has consistently maintained that prayer and faith are central to his leadership philosophy.
He believes that divine guidance is essential in making sound decisions and achieving meaningful progress.
This belief informed his decision to meet religious leaders and seek their blessings as he prepares to intensify his campaigns at the grassroots level.
According to residents of Bumula, Murunga has the potential to deliver numerous development projects if given the opportunity to lead.
Many believe that his approach to leadership focused on listening to the people and addressing their immediate needs sets him apart from previous leaders.
They expressed confidence that Murunga would prioritize development initiatives that directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens, including improving infrastructure, supporting small-scale businesses, and expanding access to essential services such as healthcare and education.
Some residents noted that, based on his early engagements and promises, Murunga appears determined to outperform his predecessors by ensuring that development is not only visible but also inclusive and sustainable.
They added that his commitment to grassroots empowerment gives them hope for a more responsive and results-oriented leadership.
During the meeting, he reiterated his commitment to peaceful politics, urging leaders to avoid inflammatory rhetoric that could divide communities along political or ethnic lines.
He warned that irresponsible political behavior could easily destabilize the country if not checked early.
Beyond his peace message, Murunga has also begun rolling out community-based initiatives aimed at uplifting vulnerable groups within the constituency.
He revealed that he is in the process of developing programs that will support economic empowerment, particularly targeting low-income households.
Just a day before the church meeting, Murunga visited Mateka Market, where he interacted with women traders, popularly known as “mama mboga.”
During the visit, he provided financial support to several women groups as part of his broader plan to boost small-scale businesses.
He explained that empowering women economically is one of his key agenda items, noting that many families depend heavily on small businesses run by women for survival.
By strengthening these enterprises, he said, households will be better positioned to meet basic needs such as food, education, and healthcare.
Murunga added that many of the women rely on their businesses to educate their children and sustain their families, making it essential for leaders to support and expand such economic opportunities.
He pledged to continue initiating programs that will enhance access to capital, training, and markets for small traders.
Women who benefited from the support expressed their gratitude, describing Murunga as a leader who understands their struggles.
In interviews with The Intellectual’s Post, several of them said the assistance would go a long way in boosting their businesses and improving their livelihoods.
They also pledged to support Murunga’s bid in the upcoming 2027 General Election, citing his direct engagement with the community and his focus on practical solutions as key reasons for their endorsement.
He urged the youths to continue participating in the mass voter registration exercise and civic processes, emphasizing that their active involvement is key to shaping the Bumula Constituency’s democratic future.
