Mombasa,Kenya.

The 14th East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Games began today in Mombasa.

The games are bringing together nine member states, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, DR Congo, Somalia, and the East African Legislative Assembly.

They are set to run from December 6 to 18 and expected to deliver significant economic and tourism benefits for Kenya, especially for the coastal region.

Boost to Tourism and Local Economy.

Mombasa, a key tourist destination in East Africa, is taking advantage of the games to showcase its vibrant hospitality, marine parks, and rich cultural heritage.

The city anticipates a boost in demand for its hotels, restaurants, and transportation services as it welcomes hundreds of delegates, athletes, and fans from the region.

Sports tourism is a vital part of the global tourism industry, contributing to increased employment opportunities and revenue for local businesses.

Mombasa’s governor, Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, emphasized the importance of leveraging the games to enhance the region’s profile as a top-tier tourist destination.

Economic Gains.

By hosting the games, Mombasa projects a positive economic impact, with increased spending from visitors benefiting local vendors and service providers.

The event also aims to stimulate sports tourism, an emerging segment that accounts for nearly 25% of global tourism revenue.

Local industries, including crafts, cultural experiences, and recreational activities like water sports, stand to benefit greatly from the influx of regional participants and spectators.

Promotion of Regional Unity.

The event not only fosters sportsmanship but also serves as a platform for regional integration, with sports being used to strengthen diplomatic ties and collaboration among EAC member states.

This year’s theme, “Experience the Magic of Mombasa,” reflects the spirit of unity and partnership underpinning the games.

Kenya has demonstrated its preparedness for the games, with upgraded facilities and top-notch security arrangements at venues like the Mbaraki Stadium and Aga Khan Academy.

The city’s hospitality and festive atmosphere promise to leave a lasting impression on participants and visitors alike.

By hosting this prestigious event, Kenya continues to position itself as a leader in fostering regional integration and promoting economic growth through sports and tourism.

Ends.
