Vihiga High Senior School continues to strengthen its reputation as one of Kenya’s leading centres of academic and co-curricular excellence after posting an outstanding performance at the 2026 Western Region Kenya Music Festivals. The school’s remarkable success has seen seven items qualify for the national championships, reaffirming its status as the true Home of Talent.
The impressive performance reflects the school’s deliberate investment in holistic education, where learners are empowered to excel both in the classroom and on competitive platforms. Through consistent mentorship, quality training and strong institutional support, Vihiga High has continued to produce well-rounded students who confidently showcase their talents at regional and national levels.
One of the most memorable achievements was the choir’s historic debut in the Zilizopendwa with Live Instruments category. Competing in the category for the first time, the students delivered an exceptional performance to emerge first, marking a significant milestone in the school’s music programme.
The school also dominated several other categories, securing first position in African Adaptation and Arrangement, Own Composition, Mixed Set Piece performed jointly with Mudavadi Girls Senior School, and Trombone. The Boys’ Set Piece team finished second, further underlining the school’s musical prowess.
Beyond music, the Mashairi team also excelled, with Class 2118 and Class 2138 each securing second position, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to nurturing literary and performing arts.
The success has been attributed to the visionary leadership of Principal Albert Masiolo, whose unwavering support for co-curricular programmes has created an environment where learners thrive. Under his leadership, the school has embraced a balanced approach to education, recognizing that excellence extends beyond academic achievement to include creativity, innovation, discipline and character development.
Teachers, trainers, the Board of Management and parents have also been praised for their collective commitment to mentoring students and providing the encouragement needed to excel on competitive stages.

As preparations begin for the national Kenya Music Festivals, optimism is high that Vihiga High Senior School will once again raise the bar and proudly represent Vihiga County and the Western Region.
With a rich tradition of excellence, a culture of discipline and an unwavering commitment to nurturing talent, Vihiga High Senior School continues to shape confident, creative and responsible young leaders, proving that it is indeed a place where talent meets excellence.
