Police in Teso North Sub-County have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of a seven-year-old boy in Kocholia.
Speaking to the press at his office in Amagoro on Friday, Teso North Sub-County Police Commander Charles Chepkong’a said investigations began after a report was made at the police Occurrence Book (OB) on Thursday.
Chepkong’a said detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited Kocholia Sub-County Hospital, where the boy had been rushed by his mother. The detectives also visited a chemist in Kocholia where the child was reportedly treated but found the premises closed.
According to the police commander, it is believed the boy was first taken to the chemist on July 2, where he was allegedly given an injection. He was later returned to the same facility and reportedly received another injection before collapsing.
The child was rushed to Kocholia Sub-County Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
“Investigations to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of the boy, who is believed to have been in Grade Two, are ongoing. The DCI is handling the matter and will establish whether there was any negligence and identify any person who may be held responsible,” said Chepkong’a.
He added that a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death and determine the nature of the drugs that were administered to the child.
The police commander said the boy’s body is being preserved at Frapa Mortuary in Kocholia pending the post-mortem examination, which will be conducted in the presence of the family.
