National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called on former President Uhuru Kenyatta to step back from active politics and embrace a unifying statesman role.
Speaking at Lunyofu Primary School in Budalang’i, Wetang’ula acknowledged Kenyatta’s legacy but warned that his recent public remarks could deepen political divisions at a time when the country needs unity.
His comments come as political tensions rise, with Sirisia Member of Parliament John Waluke recently alleging that Kenyatta is financing opposition activities aimed at destabilizing President William Ruto’s administration. Waluke did not provide evidence to support the claims.
Kenyatta has not publicly responded to either Wetang’ula’s remarks or the allegations by Waluke.
Speaker Wetang’ula urged restraint among senior leaders, saying those who have held high office have a responsibility to promote national cohesion and stability rather than inflame political tensions.
He emphasized that Kenya’s progress depends on unity, particularly as the country navigates an increasingly active political environment ahead of future elections.
