Slow-moving and stalled national government infrastructure projects, including the long-delayed Masinde Muliro Stadium, are actively undermining President William Ruto’s momentum for a second term, a Bungoma County official warned.

Tony Barasa, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Lwandanyi Ward, called on Cabinet Secretaries in charge of key infrastructural dockets to immediately review the capacity of contractors dealing with national government infrastructure in Bungoma county.

He urged the national government to allocate major projects exclusively to contractors with proven technical and financial capacity to avoid embarasement created to the head of state in some stalled projects.

“The slow pace of these critical projects such as the stadium, stalled tarmack roads are reducing the two-term momentum for President Ruto,” Barasa said.

The ward representative specifically flagged the stalled status of Masinde Muliro Stadium at Kanduyi alongside several delayed multi-million shilling road networks in the region.

These include the Misikhu–Brigadier road, the Sang’alo–Kakamega road and the Mayanja–Sirisia road among other critical infrastructure initiated by the Kenya Kwanza regime.

Barasa argued that the persistent construction delays fuel public frustration and compromise the ruling coalition’s development track record.

Despite his sharp critique of project execution, Barasa affirmed his unwavering political loyalty to the Head of State, declaring full support for Ruto’s re-election campaign.

He challenged local detractors to look at his own architectural and infrastructural track record within Lwandanyi Ward instead of engaging in political sideshows.

Closer to home, Barasa turned his focus on the county executive, demanding that Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka fast-track long-overdue land compensation for residents.

According to Barasa, landowners at the Lwandanyi and Malakisi markets have waited three years for payouts after surrendering their plots for public development.

“The owners of the plots wanted to settle school fees and other family problems, but three years down the line, they have not received their money,” Barasa said, describing the administrative delay as a persistent thorn in his side.

Addressing local political speculation regarding his future, Barasa confirmed his long-term ambition to contest the Sirisia parliamentary seat.

However, he emphasized that his immediate priority remains serving his constituents and defending his current civic seat in the upcoming elections.

Ends.
