The late James Mukhwana Wetang’ula
NAIROBI, Kenya (IP)
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has announced the death of his elder brother, James Mukhwana Wetang’ula, a retired teacher remembered for humility, discipline and service to the community.
In a statement, the Speaker described his brother as a devoted educator, father and mentor whose life touched many through teaching and community leadership.
“It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of my elder brother, Mr. James Mukhwana Wetang’ula,” the Speaker said.
James was the firstborn son of the late Mzee Dominic Khaemba Wetang’ula and the late Mama Anna Wetang’ula.
He was a twin brother to Virginia Mulongo Sikhoya and a sibling to Dorothy Watila, Mary Ongamo, Scolastica Opemo, Hon. Tim Wanyonyi, Fred Wetang’ula and Moses Wetang’ula.
The family described him as a pillar of strength whose legacy as an educator and family man will remain firmly in their hearts. They appealed for prayers and support as they mourn his passing and honor his life.
Condolences poured in from political leaders and members of the public following the announcement.
Bungoma Sen. David Wafula Wakoli mourned James as a man of integrity and service, saying his contribution to education and society would be remembered for generations.
Bungoma Gov. Kenneth Lusaka also conveyed his condolences, praising the late retired teacher for shaping young minds and positively impacting the community.
Several Members of Parliament and county leaders posted messages of sympathy on social media, describing the loss as painful not only to the Wetang’ula family but also to the education fraternity.
Funeral arrangements were yet to be announced by the family at the time of publication.
