Bungoma County is set for a week of mixed weather, marked by sunny intervals during the day and isolated showers mainly in the afternoon and at night, according to the latest seven-day forecast issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department.
Forecasters say Bungoma will experience generally warm conditions, with clear to partly cloudy skies dominating the mornings and early afternoons.
However, residents should be alert for sudden showers and thunderstorms later in the day, especially from midweek through the weekend.
Nighttime conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy, with cooler temperatures.
The outlook reflects a broader regional pattern affecting the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and parts of the Rift Valley, where rainfall is expected to be scattered and localized rather than widespread.
Counties likely to experience similar conditions include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Siaya, Busia, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Nakuru, Baringo and Narok according to Kenya Met.
In these areas, sunshine is expected to dominate most days, interrupted by brief afternoon or evening showers in a few locations.
In the Lake Victoria Basin, counties such as Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira are forecast to see occasional rainfall, particularly near the lake and in low-lying areas driven by lake-induced convection.
Daytime conditions in the basin will remain largely sunny while nights may turn cloudy with isolated rain.
The South Rift and tea-growing regions, including Kericho and Bomet, are also expected to record brief showers toward the evening though dry spells will remain dominant.
Kenya Met notes that rainfall during the forecast period is expected to be light to moderate, with no signal of persistent or heavy rain systems.
The department says the pattern points to a transition toward drier December conditions even as isolated showers continue to occur in western parts of the country.
Farmers are being encouraged to take advantage of the extended sunny intervals for harvesting and land preparation, while traders, travelers and school communities are advised to plan activities around the possibility of late-day rainfall.
Weather experts say the forecast underscores the growing variability typical of the season, with sunshine and rain alternating over short periods — a trend that could persist into the latter part of the month.
For Bungoma and neighboring counties, the message is clear: enjoy the sunshine, but keep an eye on the skies.
