President William Ruto will launch the dualling of the 170-kilometer Rironi-Naivasha-Mau Summit road on November 28, 2025.
The move is set to ease traffic congestion, reduce accidents and boost trade along the critical Northern Corridor linking Nairobi and Western Kenya.
On the same day, the government will also break ground for the 58-kilometer Rironi-Maai Mahiu-Naivasha road, opening new transport avenues for the southern region of the country.
Speaking at State House Nairobi, President Ruto welcomed Zhang Bingman, President of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), whose subsidiary, China Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC), will undertake the road construction.
“Infrastructure development in Kenya has made huge leaps forward thanks to our strong partnership with China and Chinese firms,” Ruto said. “This collaboration has enabled the completion of flagship projects such as the Standard Gauge Railway, Nairobi Expressway, and numerous major roads.”
The president added that additional projects are underway, including the Talanta Sports City, 21 other stadia, the Bomas Convention Centre and the Lamu-Ijara-Garissa road.
Future projects in the pipeline include railway extensions to Kisumu and Malaba and the construction of the Galana Dam in Tana River County.
“These roads will not only facilitate the free movement of people and goods but also unlock new economic opportunities across the regions they serve,” Ruto said.
The dualling of these highways is expected to dramatically reduce travel times and provide safer, more efficient transport for commuters and freight along one of Kenya’s busiest trade corridors.
