President Samia Suluhu
DODOMA, Tanzania
President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to be sworn in for a new five-year term on Monday morning in Dodoma, in a ceremony tightly restricted to government officials and invited guests.
The event will take place at a military parade ground in the capital, with no members of the public allowed to attend.
Authorities have maintained heavy security in major cities following election-related protests earlier in the week.
State media said the brief ceremony will formalize Hassan’s victory in a poll that handed her party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi, another term in power.
Opposition leaders have dismissed the process as one-sided, citing arrests and intimidation before and after the vote.
Security forces remain on high alert across Dodoma, Dar es Salaam and Arusha amid fears of renewed demonstrations.
Hassan’s inauguration, though limited in attendance, is expected to signal continuity for the ruling party — but uncertainty still hangs over the country’s political future.
