BUNGOMA, Kenya (IP) —
Polycarp Kimeta Wandabusi, the newly elected chairperson of the County Assembly of Bungoma’s Finance and Economic Planning Committee, is emerging as a key political figure in Kabuchai Constituency.
He has announced plans to challenge incumbent MP Majimbo Kalasinga on a Ford Kenya ticket.
Wandabusi, who was recently elected chairman of Ford Kenya in Kabuchai, secured his latest victory on Monday when members of the finance committee picked him unopposed to succeed the Chwele/Kabuchai MCA late Barasa Mukhongo.
He pledged to steer the committee through critical tasks, including processing the Annual Development Plan report.
“I will work in solidarity with committee members to ensure timely delivery of our mandate,” Wandabusi said after his election, signaling both his administrative and political ambitions.
The elections, presided over by Deputy Clerk for Legislative Services Dr. Leonard Momos, also ushered in new leadership across six other committees of the County Assembly.
Hon. Zeddy Mukhwana was elected vice chairperson of the Finance Committee unopposed, after Hon. Anthony Lusenaka withdrew from the contest.
In other outcomes:
Hon. Everton Nganga was elected chair of the Public Accounts and Investment Committee, with Hon. Job Mukoyandali taking the vice chair slot.
Hon. Jack Wambulwa became chair of the Education and Vocational Training Committee, while Hon. Stephen Kaiser was confirmed as vice chair.
Hon. Benjamin Otsiulah was elected chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, with Hon. Caleb Wanjala clinching the vice chair seat in a contested ballot.
Hon. Timothy Chikati and Hon. Jeremiah Kuloba took over leadership of the Implementation Committee.
Hon. Johnston Ipara and Hon. Orize Kundu were elected unopposed to lead the Lands, Urban, Physical Planning and Housing Committee.
Hon. Charles Nangulu was confirmed as vice chair of the Roads, Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Committee.
Wandabusi’s dual role—as a committee chair in the assembly and Ford Kenya constituency chairman—places him in the political spotlight ahead of the next general election.
His declared bid against Kalasinga is expected to shake up Kabuchai’s parliamentary contest with Ford Kenya’s internal dynamics and Bungoma’s shifting alliances at play.
