American President Donald Trump on Sunday vowed to take tough action against violent crime after the gruesome killing of an Indian motel manager in the United States, calling the case a “wake-up call” for law enforcement and immigration authorities.
Authorities said the victim, a 55-year-old man who managed a budget motel was found decapitated last week in what investigators described as a targeted attack.
Police are still searching for the suspect who fled the scene.
Trump, speaking at a campaign rally in Ohio, condemned the killing as “barbaric” and pledged to restore what he called “law and order without compromise” if he returns to the White House.
“This never should have happened in America,” Trump said. “We will not tolerate this kind of savagery in our communities. We will strengthen our borders, support our police and make sure justice is swift.”
The victim, originally from India, had lived in the U.S. for more than two decades and was widely respected in his community, according to friends and local leaders.
His killing has sparked outrage and fear among motel owners and immigrant business communities across the country.
The Indian consulate in New York said it was in touch with the victim’s family and local authorities, calling for a thorough investigation and speedy justice.
Police have not disclosed a motive but said the suspect and victim appeared to have known each other.
