On a bright morning in Kapkong, the gates of Paul Boit Boys’ High School swing open to the sight of neatly dressed boys marching to class.
Order and discipline are unmistakable here values that have come to define the institution since Chief Principal Shem Busolo took over the reins.
In 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, Paul Boit posted a mean score of 7.6 (B-) an improvement of half a point from the previous year.
Out of 220 candidates, 157 secured direct university entry, representing a 71.4 percent transition rate.

The Busolo Effect
At the heart of this transformation is Mr. Shem Busolo , a seasoned educator and disciplinarian whose reputation precedes him.
Before coming to Paul Boit, he served as the Director of Studies at Kapsabet Boys’ High School, where he was part of the team that built the institution into a national academic powerhouse.
Busolo teaches Agriculture and Geography, but it is his no-nonsense approach to discipline and his knack for mentorship that have left the deepest imprint on Paul Boit.
“Teamwork, early syllabus coverage, and discipline are our pillars,” he said after the release of the results. “These results are not just about numbers; they are about shaping young men into responsible citizens.”
His leadership has turned Paul Boit into one of the most disciplined schools in the North Rift region, a transformation that parents and students say has restored confidence in the institution.
Rewarding Excellence
Unlike many principals who stand at a distance from their staff, Busolo has cultivated a culture of inclusion and appreciation.
After the KCSE results, he personally rewarded teachers, students and non-teaching staff for their contribution , a gesture that staff members describe as “deeply motivating.”
“When you feel valued, you give even more,” said one teacher. “Mr. Busolo doesn’t just demand results; he inspires us to achieve them.”
Faith at the Core
The school’s growth is also anchored in its Christian foundation. Sponsored by the Africa Inland Church (A.I.C.), Paul Boit is built on values of faith, discipline and service.
The church’s influence runs deep in the traditions of the institution instilling moral grounding alongside academic pursuit.
More Than Books

A Darling to Many
Among students, parents, and teachers, Busolo is affectionately described as a “darling”, tough but fair, demanding yet approachable.
His steady hand at the helm has transformed the culture of Paul Boit and inspired confidence that the best is yet to come.
“Our vision is to nurture holistic individuals who excel in academics and thrive in all areas of life,” Busolo says with calm authority. “These results are only the beginning.”
