Sichei village in Kabuchai Constituency has been selected as the site of Bungoma’s new Level 6 hospital, a Ksh 7.5 billion project expected to transform healthcare across the Western region.

Governor Kenneth Lusaka announced the decision during a consultative forum at Kibabii University, calling the project a “generational investment” that must remain free from political interference.

“This facility is a people-centered project, and it must not be compromised by personal or political interests,” Lusaka said.

The African Development Bank is financing the hospital which will serve as the region’s top referral facility.

Officials confirmed that a pre-feasibility study had already been completed, paving the way for construction.

Dr. Juma Mukhwana, Industrialization Principal Secretary who represented the Ministry of Health said groundbreaking is scheduled for March 2026 once a financing agreement is signed between the National Treasury and the bank.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa welcomed the project, saying it would not only improve health services but also provide jobs and stimulate economic growth.

“Once completed, this hospital will offer advanced treatment and create jobs, boosting not just our county economy, but the entire Western region,” Barasa said, while urging leaders to avoid politicizing the development.

The facility in Sichei will be Bungoma’s first Level 6 hospital.
