BUNGOMA, Kenya .
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday declared he would not be rigged out of the 2027 presidential election if chosen as the opposition’s flagbearer, saying unlike Raila Odinga, “I won’t allow it.”
Speaking during a political rally in Bungoma town, Kalonzo said Kenyans were tired of stolen elections and insisted he would not suffer the same fate as his longtime coalition partner. “I am not like Raila,” Kalonzo told the crowd. “If I’m the candidate, there will be no rigging.”
The rally brought together key Azimio la Umoja leaders, signaling renewed opposition momentum after weeks of youth-led protests across the country over economic hardship and state repression.
Natembeya Rallies Youth.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya called on young people to register for national identity cards ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The future belongs to Gen Z. But you must have your IDs to vote and access services,” he said, echoing a growing call among leaders to boost documentation and voter registration, especially in western Kenya.
His remarks come days after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula announced a KSh 1 million reward for chiefs who deliver the highest number of new ID registrations by 2026.
Wamalwa: Ruto Regime Has ‘Murdered Gen Z’
Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa launched a blistering attack on the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing it of cracking down on protesting youth.
“They’ve abducted, tortured, and killed our young people,” Wamalwa said. “This is not leadership — this is murder. This is a Wantam regime.”
Wamalwa’s remarks refer to recent allegations of police brutality, abductions, and deaths of demonstrators protesting high taxation and cost of living.
Gachagua Apologizes, Appeals for Calm and says Ruto is a one term President.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, in a surprising admission, apologized for leading Mount Kenya to vote for President William Ruto, saying the region had suffered under the current government. “We made a mistake. I am sorry for the political decision we made,” Gachagua said in Swahili, in comments made earlier this week.
He said President Ruto is a one term President for atrocities he had committed against the people especially the killing of innocent youths,
While addressing the youth, he urged them to abandon protests and embrace peaceful engagement. “As a father, I appeal to Gen Z — come to the table. Let’s talk. Don’t destroy your future with violence,” he said.
His apology is the latest sign of growing tensions within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, especially amid mounting youth dissatisfaction.
Other opposition leaders who addressed the meeting included former CS Matiang’i Fred,Former AG Justine Muturi,former cabinet minister Dr Mukhwasi’s Kituyi,former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi among other notable national leaders from across the country.
