Suna West MP Peter Masara has sharply criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for distancing himself from the failures of President William Ruto’s administration. Gachagua, who was impeached in October, recently condemned the government’s actions, calling them hasty and poorly planned. He accused the government of coercing and blackmailing Kenyans, while also ignoring public opposition to several of its policies.
In an interview with NTV, Gachagua asserted that he was not involved in the development and implementation of certain unpopular policies, including the controversial transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Authority (SHA), which has faced criticism for its dysfunctionality. Gachagua also warned that he might expose the government’s shortcomings in the near future.
In response, MP Peter Masara on Tuesday argued that Gachagua should be held accountable for the government’s failures. Masara suggested that if Gachagua wishes to disassociate himself from the government’s performance, he should return the pay he earned while in office. The demand highlights the ongoing political tensions as key figures in the government and opposition continue to clash over accountability and responsibility for the country’s challenges.
