Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has called on the national government to grant autonomy to County Assemblies and improve their operational efficiency through automation.

Speaking at Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi during the launch of the fifth County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) games, Governor Lusaka emphasized the need for independence among the 47 County Assemblies. He praised the CASA games as a valuable platform for fostering unity and integration across counties.

“These games offer a unique chance to bring our County Assemblies together, and it is vital that they operate autonomously to serve the people more effectively,” Lusaka remarked.

In addition, the governor urged the government to establish a comprehensive retirement plan for County Assembly Speakers and enhance security for assembly members. He expressed concern over recent attacks targeting County Assembly members, urging the government to act swiftly in addressing the issue.

“We have sadly seen honorable members lose their lives in various parts of the country, and it is critical that their safety be prioritized,” he said, underscoring the urgent need for better security measures.

The event gathered Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) and staff from all 47 counties.
