US and France Lead Call for 21-Day Ceasefire Along Israel-Lebanon Border

By Swaleh

Despite ongoing hostilities, the United States, France, and several Arab and European nations are advocating for an immediate 21-day ceasefire along the Israel-Lebanon border. This appeal comes after intense discussions at the United Nations.

The proposed ceasefire would affect the Blue Line, the demarcation line between Lebanon and Israel, and aims to create a conducive environment for negotiations toward a potential diplomatic resolution, according to Al Jazeera’s Rosiland Jordan, reporting from Washington, DC.

In a joint statement released by the White House, the countries urged both Israel and Lebanon to endorse the ceasefire without delay.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres addressed the emergency United Nations Security Council meeting, stating that “hell is breaking loose” in Lebanon and emphasizing the need to avoid an all-out war “at all costs.” He called on all parties to “stop the killing and destruction” and to de-escalate tensions.

Joining the US and France in this initiative are Qatar, Australia, Canada, the European Union, Germany, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
