Summary: Investigators are working to determine who was in the dormitory at the time of the fire.

Director of DCI Mohamed Amin has dispatched Deputy Director John Onyango and a team from the homicide and forensic departments to investigate the blaze at Hillside Endarasha Academy.

Deputy Director of DCI John Onyango is leading the investigation into the devastating fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri. Onyango arrived at the scene on Friday, accompanied by Martin Nyuguto, head of the homicide unit, and other experts from the disaster unit. Their goal is to uncover the cause of the fire.

The investigation is focused on identifying the individuals who were in the dormitory when the fire broke out.

Director DCI Mohamed Amin, who was in Mombasa with other senior police officials, including Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli, has sent Onyango and his team from the homicide and forensic departments to spearhead the investigation.

The team is meticulously combing through the debris to determine the fire’s cause. They have cordoned off the affected dormitory and enlisted the assistance of Kenya Power officials to aid in their efforts. Additional support has been provided by teams from Nyeri.

Reports indicate that the affected dormitory housed pupils from grades four to six, with some victims suffering burns beyond recognition. Further testing will be required to identify these bodies, officials said.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is expected to visit the scene. Meanwhile, officials from the Kenya Red Cross have set up a counseling tent to assist anxious parents and guardians amidst the chaos.
