In a heated exchange, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has responded to Junet Mohamed’s dismissal of his recent claim to the role of opposition leader. Speaking to the press in Mombasa, Kalonzo accused the Suna East MP of overstepping his bounds and imposing his own authority on Kenyan politics.
Kalonzo described Mohamed’s remarks as a “joke” and urged Kenyans to take them with a grain of salt. Despite the disagreement, Kalonzo emphasized that he and Mohamed are still on good terms and that their professional relationship remains intact.
Kalonzo clarified his stance, saying, “I co-chaired the NADCO report that was brought to Parliament. While Junet is a leader in Parliament, we have no issue with that. We often discuss these matters, so don’t take him too seriously.”
The Wiper leader also reaffirmed his commitment to working with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, despite some members joining President William Ruto’s administration. He expressed hope that ODM will continue to support the opposition despite recent defections.
This response comes after Junet Mohamed criticized Kalonzo’s claim to the opposition leader role during a recent ceremony. Mohamed argued that there’s no constitutional provision for such a position and emphasized the need for the government to establish it as per the NADCO report.
