As the government continues to lay emphasis on Education as an equalizer, some families still dismiss the plans as a nightmare.
Victor Walubengo Sirengo, a promising young man who sat for his National Examination KCSE in 2022 narrates how he has been forced to hustle and bustle in juakali sector after failing to join the University of his choice.
He says his documents were withheld by Butula Boys High school due to an outstanding fee balance of KSH 34,000, which has shuttered his dream of joining Murang”a University.
“After securing a B plus, I was selected to join Murang’a University and take up Analytical Chemistry degree, my mother is a widow and could not manage to take me there, in addition, the school withheld my result slip and certificates due to existing fee balance,” he said.
Victor now helps other ‘Jua Kali’ traders in washing shoes so that he can get some income.
He also operates a ‘ Mukokoteni’ to beef up his income.
While speaking to intellectual post pertaining to the uncertain future of her son, Victor’s mother Agatha Nafula Wepukhulu broke into tears citing that her son’s predicament has completely diminished the hope of the family in investing in quality education.
“We had high expectations when he joined Butula Boys National School, tables turned against us when his father passed on in 2027,” said the Mutoro.
Her sentiments were echoed by Uhuru Makokha, a neighbour who has pleaded with well wishers to rejuvenate Victor’s hope of attaining a University degree.
“We should not let such a rear opportunity for our society in to go in vain, let us help him,” he said.
The mother who stays on a rental premise at wings estate in Bungoma town has called upon Kanduyi Mp John Makali and other leaders to salvage her sons dreams.
