Efforts to improve health care in Kabuchai sub county are finally paying off with improved service delivery at Chwele sub county hospital.

Our independent inquiry into the operations at Chwele sub county Hospital in Kabuchai sub. County in Bungoma county shows that the hospital has made tremendous strides particularly improving services by installing state of art x ray & ultrasound machines that are now fully operational enabling doctors taking lesser time to diagnose various ailments without any guess work since the machines are able to detect specific body part that needs medical attention.

Initially, there were small three wards with only 9 beds but at the moment the, there is a new ward which accommodates more than 25 patients, a move that has is helping decongesting other facilities particularly Bungoma referral hospital.

We further noted that the sub-county hospital is currently serving more than 3500 out patients and 300 in patients coming from within the sub county with others across neighbouring sub-counties like Sirisia,Mt.Elgon and Kimilili.
The facility has achieved key milestones with a working orthopaedic & trauma services center on a 24-hour basis due to high cases of accidents as the area is prone to boda boda accidents and trailers plying Chwele-Lwakhakha route. This has enabled the hospital to fix plasters, remove plasters among other services.

The hospital had no NHIF inpatient services but with implementation of the insurance scheme, it has really attracted a good number of patients on NHIF insurance and Britam insurance as a result of the creation of the new NHIF out patient centre.
At the same time, we underscored the need for a good working environment amid reports doing rounds on social media as efforts by naysayers with a clear motive to undermine the hospital administration
Additionally, positive criticism aimed at improving health care in the institution is highly welcomed. However, undertones from individuals who resist administrative decisions in the facility should not be tolerated.

According to the facilities pharmacist in charge, chwele sub-county hospital boosts of quality drugs that they have been procuring on a monthly basis.
“We have enough drugs for our people in the facility & even we have people who are astonished how we manage stocking quality drugs that are rarely stocked on the shelves of public hospitals.” She said. Our team also noted that even the many mushrooming chemists around the hospital had to close shop owing to the fact that the hospital is fully equipped with all necessary medicines.

With proper medical management under the department
of health, the county government of Bungoma, patients will no longer need to make hectic trips in search of medical care.
