Anxiety gripped Busia football fraternity when the county champions St Joseph’s Chakol Girls were omitted from the fixtures released on the eve of the regional secondary school games that starts today (Wednesday) in Kakamega County.

Chakol is in Pool B together with Madira from Vihiga County, former national champions Archbishop Njenga from Kakamega, and Moi Girls Kamusinga from Bungoma.

While allaying fears of the team’s exclusion from the games, Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Busia Branch Secretary Charles Okanya said the teacher in charge of the team delayed to submit the documents for inclusion in the official program.
” There should be no cause for alarm over the team’s participation at the games whose curtain will come down on Saturday. The name of Busia champions will be inserted today in the fixtures,” Okanya said.

Should they be included in the fixtures as assured by the games organisers, Chakol will open their campaign tomorrow (Thursday) against two-time national champons Archbishop Njenga from Kakamega at Mukumu Boys Upper Field Grounds.
They will play their second match on the same day with a clash against Madira Girls from Vihiga. Chakol will complete their preliminaries on Friday when they take on Moi Girls Kamusinga from Bungoma in a titanic encounter.
Busia County runners-up Katakwa will open their campaign tomorrow (Thursday) with a clash against Ibubi Girls from Vihiga County before their second encounter on the same day against 2014 national champions Butere Girls.

The same fate befell Bungoma champions Brenda, which was also excluded from the fixtures that included Ibubi, Butere Girls, and Katakwa. Reached for comment, KSSSA Bungoma Branch Secretary Eric Ngichabe said it was the duty of the team’s coach to submit the documents in time.
Like the soccer boys, which will have no defending champions after Ebwali was eliminated at the county level, soccer women will also have no defending champion, with Mwira failing to qualify for the regionals, same to runners-up Nangili.
