D.P. KINDIKI TAKES OATH OF OFFICE.

By MICAH SALI.

On November 1, 2024, Prof. Kithure Kindiki was officially sworn in as the Deputy President of Kenya at a ceremony held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi. This ceremony, which began at 10:42 a.m. with the placement of the Judiciary mace in the arena, was presided over by the Chief Justice, Martha Koome, and witnessed by high-ranking officials and the public.

The event marks a significant change in Kenya’s political landscape. Prof. Kindiki replaced Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached on October 17, making Gachagua the first Deputy President in Kenyan history to be removed from office through impeachment under the 2010 Constitution.

This impeachment process was confirmed by both the National Assembly and the Senate.

The oath of office was administered by the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Winfrida Mokaya, with Chief Justice Koome overseeing the proceedings. Prof. Kindiki, joined by his wife, Dr. Joyce Kithure, pledged to serve the country and President Dr. William Ruto, who later lauded Kindiki’s patriotism, commitment to national unity, and inclusivity.

The event saw a notable attendance, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Speaker of the National Assembly Dr. Moses Wetang’ula, Speaker of the Senate Amerson Kingi, members of the diplomatic corps, and other politicians.

Prime CS Mudavadi praised Kindiki’s humility, a quality he suggested was lacking in previous officeholders.

Ends.
