Goodbye Is Not Enough — Give Him His Flowers Now

Some goodbyes are too heavy for words. This is one of them.

When we speak of Dickens Bula, we are not just talking about a former Chief Principal—we are speaking of a man who poured his heart, his strength and his vision into shaping lives and rebuilding institutions.

From Oriwo Boys High School to Orero Boys High School, his journey has been nothing short of transformational.

At Oriwo Boys, he stepped in with quiet determination and began the slow, often thankless work of restoring hope.

He believed when many doubted. He pushed when things felt stuck. And in that persistence, he planted seeds of discipline, ambition and pride that would later blossom into a renewed identity for the school.

Then came Orero Boys—and with it, a broader canvas for his vision. Here, he did more than lead; he inspired. He lifted the school’s spirit, challenged its limits and built a culture where excellence was not feared, but embraced.

Under his guidance, students did not just learn—they discovered themselves. Teachers did not just work—they believed again. The school did not just function—it flourished.

But beyond the achievements, beyond the recognition, lies something even more powerful—his humanity.

Dickens Bula was present. He listened. He cared. He stood firm when it mattered and extended a hand when it was needed.

To many students, he was not just a principal; he was a mentor, a father figure, a steady voice in uncertain times.
That is why this moment feels so emotional.

How do you say goodbye to someone who has given so much of himself?
How do you reduce years of sacrifice, resilience and unwavering commitment into a single farewell? You can’t.

That is why goodbye is not enough.
He deserves more than a quiet exit. He deserves to be celebrated while he can still feel the warmth of that appreciation.

He deserves to hear the stories, to see the gratitude in people’s eyes, to know—deeply—that his work changed lives.
He deserves his flowers.

Not tomorrow. Not in whispers but now—openly, proudly and wholeheartedly because the truth is, institutions may move on, but the impact of a leader like Dickens Bula does not fade.

It lives on in every confident student, every disciplined system, every dream that now feels possible because he once believed it was.

So as he turns this page, let it not be marked by a simple goodbye—but by a standing, heartfelt tribute.
Give him his flowers.
