“It’s Not My Fault”: Mudavadi Blames MCAs for Vihiga Hospital Woes

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has shifted the blame for the dismal state of Vihiga County Referral Hospital straight onto the laps of local MCAs, insisting that the healthcare shortcomings are not his doing.

Speaking to the media, Mudavadi pointed fingers at county legislators for failing to pass laws that could have upgraded the hospital, leaving residents with little choice but to seek treatment in Kakamega, Kisumu and Eldoret.

Vihiga County, with its modest network of 43 public health facilities, includes only 3 hospitals, 18 health centers and 22 dispensaries, but struggles with chronic shortages of specialists, essential equipment and basic amenities.

Reports from the county paint a bleak picture: drug stock-outs, overworked staff and unfinished infrastructure projects have become the norm rather than the exception.

When asked who should be held accountable, Mudavadi was unequivocal: “It’s not my fault. The MCAs  didn’t do their job,” he quipped, as locals continue to wonder if anyone in the county government is actually reading the fine print on health policy—or even showing up to the hospitals.

For residents, the real question remains: Who’s to blame when a referral hospital can’t refer much more than frustration?
