Kanduyi MP John Makali has outlined wide-ranging development gains across education, infrastructure, energy, agriculture and trade, saying his administration has laid a firm foundation for transforming the constituency.

In his New Year address to residents, Makali said education remains his flagship priority, noting that more than 100 new classrooms have been constructed across Kanduyi over the past three years to replace unsafe and dilapidated structures.

He cited the completion of the first modern storey building since his election — a 12-classroom complex with offices at Ranje Primary School in West Sang’alo — with similar projects underway in other wards.

At the tertiary level, Makali said the elevation of Sang’alo Institute to a national polytechnic had expanded opportunities for technical training, while Sh600 million hostels were secured for both Bungoma National Polytechnic and Kibabii University to improve student accommodation.

On education support, the MP said bursary allocations have steadily increased from Sh38 million in the first edition to Sh54 million in the second, benefiting thousands of learners across all eight wards, with a fourth edition set to be launched soon.

Makali also reported progress in electricity connectivity, saying over 1,000 households have been connected, with power expansion ongoing in 17 villages following a visit by the Cabinet Secretary for Energy.

In agriculture, he said Nzoia Sugar Company is set to resume operations this month after prolonged shutdown, assuring farmers of prompt payments and employees of regular salaries.

On roads, Makali listed several tarmacked routes, including Bishop Macheusi Road and Total Kanduyi–Red Cross–Stadium Road, with the Musikoma–Navakholo (C41) Road currently under construction.

To boost trade, he said the Sh380 million Soko Kubwa Market is taking shape in Bungoma town, while a Sh50 million Bukembe Market will be launched early this year.

Makali also announced the opening of the Bungoma Immigration Office in Kanduyi, bringing passport and work permit services closer to residents.

Looking ahead, the MP pledged continued investment in classrooms, roads, power connectivity and markets, urging unity as Kanduyi advances into the new year.
