KABUCHAI, Kenya (IP) —

A political drama is playing out in Kabuchai after two Ford Kenya MCAs snubbed MP Majimbo Kalasinga’s development tour, fueling talk of betrayal and widening rifts within the party.

Luuya/Bwake Ward MCA Edwin Opwora and West Nalondo Ward MCA Polycarp Wandabusi were missing as Kalasinga handed over two new school buses worth a combined Ksh22.8 million to St. Michael Nasaka Secondary School and St. Joseph’s Nalondo Girls Senior Secondary School.

Kalasinga blasted Opwora for “betrayal,” saying he had stood by him during the 2022 elections.

“I walked and dined with this person to achieve victory, and in return, I expect loyalty,” the MP said, accusing the MCA of plotting with rivals to sabotage his 2027 re-election bid.

When Wandabusi also failed to show up at Nalondo Girls, Kalasinga’s frustration boiled over.

“I fought for them to receive their nomination tickets in 2022, and that support led them to victory,” he said.

Still, Kalasinga vowed to press on with development.

He promised to upgrade the muddy Bukembe Sawa Road, a lifeline for residents during the rainy season.

Some residents sided with the MP.
“MCA Opwora and Wandabusi should stop hiding in bars drinking while Kalasinga is bringing projects to their wards,” said Mark Kawangware an aidee of the MP.

Tensions worsened after Wandabusi was elected chair of Ford Kenya’s Kabuchai branch in a party election marred by claims of ‘corruption’by the MP and his supporters .

Bungoma Women Representative Catherine Wambilianga oversaw the poll, but Kalasinga said he was sidelined and vowed to remain politically active.

The fallout is also linked to Kalasinga’s growing ties with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, a fierce critic of the Kenya Kwanza government.

The cracks raise questions about loyalty inside Ford Kenya, a party led nationally by Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula and a key pillar of the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.

For now, residents are left watching whether the leaders will close ranks — or let rivalry stall Kabuchai’s development.
