In a decisive move to curb healthcare fraud, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has announced the suspension of 85 health facilities for engaging in fraudulent activities.
A rigorous forensic audit uncovered widespread abuse, including altered medical reports, billing irregularities and claims for ghost patients.
*Action Taken*
– 85 health facilities suspended for fraud
– 544 unlicensed health facilities closed down by KMPDC
– 454 facilities had licenses revoked due to violations
– 1,188 files submitted to DCI for further investigation
*Warning to Perpetrators*
CS Duale warned that any facility, doctor, or patient involved in fraud will face the law.
SHA CEO Mercy Mwangangi added that suspended hospitals will not receive SHA benefits during the suspension period.
*Crackdown on Unlicensed Facilities*
The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has intensified inspections resulting in the closure of unlicensed ,facilities operating below standards, employing unlicensed practitioners and lacking critical infrastructure.
*Investigation Underway*
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will probe the submitted files and evidence, ensuring those responsible for healthcare fraud are held accountable.
