NAIROBI, Kenya —
Bungoma Senator David Wakoli has strongly criticized the county executive over what he terms as persistent negligence and poor management of emergency response infrastructure, revealing that a vital county fire engine remains grounded in a Nairobi garage over unpaid bills.
In a public statement released with supporting procurement documents, the legislator detailed how his recent inspection of the Mobikey Truck Workshopin Nairobi confirmed his long-standing fears regarding the county’s lack of preparedness to handle fire and other emergencies.
Senator Wakoli noted that despite the initial round of repairs being completed as early as April 2026, the vehicle has not been released back to the county due to an outstanding debt exceeding KSh 1 million.
Furthermore, he revealed that the workshop established the emergency vehicle still requires additional major overhauls—including critical fixes to its rear water pump system, radiator and electrical charging system—before it can safely return to active service.
Expressing deep frustration with the local administration, the Senator charged that the county executive had consistently met his prior warnings with empty rhetoric rather than concrete action.
Senator Wakoli stated emphatically that he would not remain silent merely to protect Governor Kenneth Lusaka’s ego, emphasizing that exercising oversight is his strict constitutional duty.
The lawmaker asserted that the safety, lives and properties of Bungoma residents must not be compromised by administrative failure.
He vowed to continue speaking out until public resources are managed with complete accountability and the electorate receives the services they rightfully deserve.
Ends.
