A Kenyan environment court judge has threatened the Chief Land Registrar with arrest for contempt of court after the Ministry of Lands failed to resolve a high-profile property dispute involving former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta.
Justice C.G. Mbogo ordered the official to appear on July 28, 2026, to explain the defiance of a December 2025 decree to clear illegal titles from a 1,062-hectare parcel in Taita Taveta County.
The land dispute arose from the Ministry of Lands’ failure to issue a valid title deed for a 1,062-hectare parcel to Mama Ngina Kenyatta and Basil Criticos, while the state attempted to allocate the land to squatters.
The conflict was intensified by the alleged unlawful release of the original deed to a third party and the creation of overlapping, illegal titles, prompting a lawsuit to compel document issuance and revoke rival claims.
Ends.
