Sirisia Member of Parliament John Waluke on Monday cautioned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua against what he termed ethnic incitement, saying leaders should avoid divisive remarks and instead focus on development.
Waluke spoke during a bursary cheques issuance ceremony at Friends Church in Namwela Division, where he addressed parents and students benefiting from the education support program.
“If he was impeached for his own failure, he should not incite the public against the President,” Waluke said, referring to Gachagua.
The lawmaker urged Western Kenya residents to support President William Ruto, arguing that the region has witnessed accelerated development under his administration.
“We should own Ruto as our family in Western Kenya for the development projects he has initiated — more than former presidents Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta,” he said.
Waluke cited the planned upgrade of the Chwele–Lwakhakha road and the completion of the Mayanja–Sirisia road to bitumen standards in the coming months.
He also credited the president’s support for enabling Chwele Girls High School to construct what he described as the largest social hall in Western Kenya.
The MP dismissed opposition politicians as “radarless,” saying they lack direction. Referring to Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi as “Governor fresh,” Waluke urged Bungoma residents to support him in the next gubernatorial race.
He also warned local administrators against irregularities in the national identity card issuance process, saying the Department of National Registration of Persons would soon camp in Sirisia to ensure eligible residents receive identification documents.
“It will be tough on those who frustrate wananchi in accessing IDs,” Waluke said.
