NAIROBI, Kenya (IP)
Installation of new foldable modern seats is expected to progress at Talanta Sports City Stadium, as the 60,000-capacity facility moves closer to completion ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Construction crews have shifted focus from heavy structural work to interior finishing, with seating sections now taking shape inside the stadium bowl.
Images from the site a fortnight ago showed rows of newly fitted plastic seats across lower and middle tiers, transforming the once-bare concrete stands into a recognizable modern arena.
The stadium, rising on the historic Jamhuri Grounds along Ngong Road in Nairobi, is expected to serve as one of the flagship venues when Kenya co-hosts the continental tournament.
Officials have emphasized that the new seating meets international standards for comfort and safety after Kenyans criticism on social media of the fitting of plastic ones that had been a mockery of the world class design with substandard seats.
Talanta stadium according to Kenyans should be fitted with modern foldable seats and not plastic ones.
The government response indicates that it is determined to provide standardized comfort to spectators,a key element to making the stadium attractive to hosting international matches.
Beyond new foldable seating installation, work continues on roofing, hospitality areas, media sections and VIP facilities.
Once complete, the football-specific stadium will bring fans closer to the pitch, creating a compact atmosphere designed to enhance match-day experience.
The venue is also expected to host fixtures involving the national team, Harambee Stars, marking a significant milestone in Kenya’s push to modernize its sports infrastructure.
