Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka on Friday hosted a delegation of Trans Nzoia Members of the County Assembly in a strategic consultative meeting aimed at nudging Governor George Natembeyainto the Western Kenya political formation backing President William Ruto’s re-election bid.

The closed-door talks, held in Bungoma, underscored intensifying efforts by Western region leaders to close ranks early and present a united front ahead of the 2027 general election.

Lusaka, recently named a key coordinator for President Ruto’s re-election campaign in Western Kenya, framed the outreach as a matter of regional leverage rather than partisan loyalty, arguing that unity among governors and legislators would strengthen the region’s bargaining power with the national government.

“We cannot continue negotiating development as fragmented voices,” Lusaka said after the meeting. “Western Kenya must speak as one if it is to secure its fair share.”

The Trans Nzoia MCAs were urged to use their proximity to Governor Natembeya to relay the case for cooperation, with Lusaka portraying the move as an opportunity to translate political alignment into tangible development outcomes.

Natembeya, a former regional commissioner turned governor, has cultivated an image of independence and reformist politics, making him a pivotal — and closely watched — figure in the Western Kenya succession calculus.

Political analysts say Lusaka’s engagement signals a broader strategy by the Ruto camp to neutralize potential pockets of dissent in the region while consolidating influential county leaders into a single campaign structure.

With campaign undercurrents already rippling across Western Kenya, Friday’s meeting marked an early but telling chapter in the quiet contest to shape the region’s political direction.
