Kenyan Senator Wafula Wakoli says his recent visit to Uganda marks a new chapter in efforts to deepen agricultural cooperation between Kenya and its western neighbor.
In a statement after meeting with Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Joash Mwangi, Wakoli described the talks as “fruitful and engaging,” noting they focused on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing collaboration in the agricultural sector — a key driver of regional development.
“Our discussions and briefing centered on improving agricultural ties as a foundation for regional cooperation,” Wakoli said. “Both countries share similar strengths and challenges in farming, and this partnership will help us grow together.”
The meeting explored ways to boost productivity and value addition through technology transfer, farmer exchange programs and harmonized standards for produce and inputs to ease cross-border trade.
Wakoli said the initiative aims to empower farmers, expand markets, and promote food security across the East African region.
He added that a joint working group between Nairobi and Kampala will be established to fast-track the proposals, with tangible outcomes expected within a year.
“Our partnership is about more than trade — it’s about empowering farmers and building a resilient regional economy,” Wakoli said.
